New job in City investment bank
Looking for another opportunity didn't take long. I'm working as a Zope, Plone developer in one of the biggest investment banks in London City.
I'll be working on CMS that is used for Intranet. It is challenging and requires knowledge in Python, Zope and some Plone skills. It seems that I'll need to learn a lot about system administration side of things. It is reassuring that even such a huge corporation uses open source.
I've got my computer with two large screens. I've never used 2 screens at once, even when I had a chance. I always claimed than 2 monitors don't make you think better or solve problems faster. And this is mostly what I'm doing - solving problems.
It is a bit different here that I thought. Environment is quite rigid but people are really nice and relaxed. I'm getting used to be unable to download files from the web, check my Gmail, watch YouTube.
I've got security pass, with my name and photo and bank logo. I dusted off my shirts and bought few new ones. I can't come to the office in jumper or T-shirt anymore. Now it is much more washing and ironing at home. All praise to Renata - my wife - for doing that. I must say I'm beginning to feel good as a "banker".
