Sightseeing Washington
I've walked half-marathon sightseeing US capital city. Washington is really beautiful, well designed in neoclassical style. It is clean with lots of green spots.
On the second day I've walked 24 kilometres. That is better than half-marathon. I've seen all the interesting venues and monuments.
- White House
- Washington Monument
- National World War II Memorial
- Lincoln Monument
- Vietnam Veterans Memorial
- Korean War Veterans Memorial
- Roosevelt Memorial
- Jefferson Memorial
- Pentagon and Pentagon Memorial
- Arlington National Cemetery
- Capitol
- Union Station
On the second day I've visited museums. Then I've realized that I'm actually in the US, the country that invented things like plane, landed on the Moon ect.
- Old Post Office Tower
- National Museum of the American Indian
- National Air and Space Museum
- Smithsonian Institution Building
- National Museum of Natural History
- National Archives
Washington is AMAZING. Great and beautiful city. Wide streets, lots of space. Many parks, lots of trees along avenues. Very clean everywhere - not surprising considering number of bins on the street. If only someone did the same in London :).
I really liked the idea of street numeration. I don't know maybe it is common in US but I've never came across such a schema. Capitol is the city centre. All street names on the East and West are numbers: 1st Street, 2nd Street ect. And those on the North and South side are letters: A Street, B Street. So there are always 2 streets with the same name so you have to use direction together with name. My Hotel Harrington was on 236 11th Street NW (North-West). It is not possible to get lost.
Here is the map. Sorry but labels are in Polish only. but if you zoom in you can see all names in English provided by Google maps. Each colour describe separate day.View Larger Map
