Thieves from Ryanair and/or Mastercard
Their foreign currency rate / spread is a crime
One can write a lot of bad things about Ryanair. But here I'm not talking about obvious things like splitting fare into 10 parts and adding bit by bit during booking so final price is 4 times the "fare". It is about something that is hiddden that gives Ryanair / Mastercard a lot of freedom to juggle the price in expense of the customer: you and me.
Foreign exchange rate.
Last weekend I've purchased a plane ticket. It cost me 630.70 zł (Polish zloty). I've used Mastercard Prepaid card (Orange Cash) to avoid ridiculous card fee. Card's currency is £ (British pound). Next day I felt like I was robbed.
On my card statement I've found out that after conversion I'd paid £152.99 using FX rate: 0.24257 PLNGBP. So £1 bought me 4.12 zł. Which is just so much less than with average rate on that day around 0.2227 PLNGBP (£1 should buy 4.49 zł).
If the fair rate was used I'd have paid £140.46. I could understand spread of 2-3% but not 8.9%, which cost me additional £12.53.
Never, ever pay Ryanair with card that has a different currency than your ticket price.
